Baskets and Braces
For those of our patients that celebrate Easter and Passover, we know that this is a special time. We also know that kids of all ages – from toddlers to teens – look forward to their holiday treats every year. While avoiding hard, crunchy or sticky treats, one can still enjoy a tasty holiday celebration! At Graber Orthodontics, we’ve compiled a few ideas to help you enjoy the holidays and avoid unnecessary trips to the orthodontist’s office for broken brackets or poking wires.

Chocolate Surprise

Swap your jelly beans for soft chocolates! Chocolates can be great candies for patients with braces or expanders, as they are soft, melty, and won’t usually stick to appliances. Substitute hard and/or sticky candy that may contain nuts, caramels, or sticky fillings for traditional chocolate bunnies, eggs, or peanut butter cups. This easy swap will keep your braces safe and stomach happy! And don’t forget to brush!

Sweet Treats

Holidays are synonymous with treats like cupcakes, cheesecake, cookies, and brownies. Most of these sweets are a safe choice, but always remember to brush your teeth when you’re finished. This will prevent sugar from sitting on your teeth, keeping your braces clean and teeth healthy.

Alternatives to Sugary Snacks

Try switching out candy and sweets for non-edible items this Easter and Passover season! Books, gift cards, puzzles, coloring books, sidewalk chalk, legos, movies, and bubbles are great alternatives that will please children of all ages.

Passover and Seder

During the week of Passover, participants abstain from consuming chametz, or leavened food. The good news is that foods customarily eaten during Passover, such as matzo, kugel, matzo ball soup, gefilte fish, potatoes, and brisket, are all braces friendly!
