We are so incredibly excited to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of Graber Orthodontics this year! This amazing accomplishment could not have been possible without the support of thousands of patients, hundreds of referring doctors, and our valued team members. For the better part of a century, Graber Orthodontics has remained an independent and family-owned orthodontic practice in the North Shore and Northwest Suburbs of Chicago. We are beyond thankful for the opportunity to help transform thousands of smiles over these last 75 years.

We have seen the field of orthodontics continue to grow and develop as a specialty and are grateful for the part Graber Orthodontics has played in this field. With the Graber Orthodontic textbook now in its sixth edition, we celebrate the accomplishments of Graber Orthodontics’ founder, Dr. Tom Graber, as well as the distinguished contributions of his son, Dr. Lee W. Graber. Dr. Katie Graber, Dr. Lee Graber’s daughter, and third generation orthodontist, continues the family orthodontic legacy. Partnering with Dr. Katie Graber, Dr. Kelley Gyllenhaal remains a local leader in the orthodontic community and practices the founding principles of Graber Orthodontics – a family tradition of healthy, beautiful smiles.

Graber Orthodontics began on the first floor of the Graber family home, located on Howard Street on the north side of Chicago, Illinois in 1946. Dr. Tom Graber opened up his first private practice in the living room of the home he shared with his wife, Doris. She joined him as an assistant and receptionist at the family home practice, before pursuing her further degrees as a noted and accomplished Political Science Professor.

After outgrowing the living room clinic of the family home, Graber Orthodontics expanded to the Evanston area, and eventually into a brick-and-mortar office in Kenilworth. Dr. Lee Graber, the oldest of Dr. Tom Graber and Professor Doris Graber’s 5 children, would eventually join his father in private practice in 1973, working side-by-side with his father for over a decade. Wanting to expand further North, an office in Vernon Hills was opened in 1989. Dr. Katie Graber would also join her father in practice in 2004. Graber Orthodontics opened an additional office in Glenview in 2015 when Dr. Kelley Gyllenhaal joined and she soon became a partner. In 2018, Graber Orthodontics became Graber & Gyllenhaal Orthodontics, as it is known today.

For the last 75 years, our clinical philosophy has not changed – our mission has always been to create healthy, beautiful smiles. We wish to extend our most sincere thanks to the thousands of “Graber Grins” we’ve had the pleasure of working with these last 75 years.
